If you want to know how cloning works, you can head on down to the bottom of the article for an explanation.

Using the Built-in Cloning Feature

Since 2017, both manufacturers and developers have noticed the need to have multiple instances of messengers and apps. And with that need, they’ve started putting cloning features in their devices. You might have come across some features that are similar and you can definitely benefit from using them. For the Oppo phone that I have right now (Oppo F5), it currently has the cloning feature enabled.

Note that your phone doesn’t necessarily need to be an Oppo and some other manufacturers might have included this feature on your phone. But nevertheless, since I have an Oppo device, I can show you some screenshots on how to do it. So if you’re using an Oppo phone follow these steps to clone your apps.

  1. Make sure that you have Whatsapp installed on your phone
  2. Find the ‘Clone Apps’ settings on your phone. Tap on it to view the settings.
  3. You should be able to see all your apps that are eligible for the cloning feature. Select WhatsApp.
  4. You will see the options to Enable App Cloning. Tap the option to turn it on. Additionally, you can change the name of the Cloned App. Just tap the name and you can change it from there.
  5. Once enabled, you should be able to see the second WhatsApp icon on your home screen.
  6. From here you’ll be able to use WhatsApp simultaneously. The only requirement for you to be successful is that you’ll need to have two phone numbers. This can be easily solved if you have a phone with Dual SIM capability.
  7. Enjoy using two accounts in WhatsApp at the same time!

If you don’t have an Oppo phone, don’t worry. Google implemented the Cloning Feature in some Lollipop builds and you might have it available in your phone. Continue reading to find out how you can do it.

Cloning Feature in Lollipop and Above

You might be using a phone that has the cloning feature installed. We know that the feature was initially enabled in Android 5.0 lollipop but not a lot of manufacturers took advantage of it. If you have an Android Lollipop phone, check your settings. You might see that App Clone setting there, or it might be under a different name such as “Duplicate App” or something along those lines. In the off-chance that it’s available, just tap on the setting and you can use it straight away.

Don’t worry if it’s not available! If you’ve got an Android Lollipop phone then you can definitely install some of the alternative applications that can help you use multiple instances of apps at the same time. Meaning to say, the ability to use multiple WhatsApp accounts in one single Android phone is still possible!

Cloning Apps

Parallel Space

If there’s a list out there of the best cloning apps, I’m pretty sure that Parallel Space would be the first in the list (or somewhere down the list). Why? It’s because it’s one of the easiest app cloners in the market that is easy to use and is pretty much no frills. Once you’ve opened Parallel Space, the steps are quite simple.

  1. Select the app that you want to clone. (If the app you want to clone is not in the options, simply click on the + sign and select your app from the list.
  2. Once you’ve selected the app, a special partition or ‘Parallel Space’ will be created for the app and you’ve successfully cloned the app.
  3. The cloned app should appear on your home screen and it should be easy to switch between the two instances.

Did I mention that the app is free? You can easily download Parallel Space by clicking here.

Note: You may have to install the Parallel Space 64 Bit Support from Play store if the app does not work properly.

2Face has recently combined with Parallel Space to be more effective. However, you might encounter that not all apps work with Parallel Space so you might want to download 2Face separately. It works just the same as Parallel Space but the only caveat here is that you’ll be using an outdated version of the app, since the updated app has not merged with Parallel Space.

If in any case, you can still take full advantage of the app cloning feature of 2Face without any hiccups. You’ll need to download 2Face as an APK though.

Another app that always pops up when it comes to talking about App Cloning is AppCloner. With a name as simple as that, you’re sure that it will work wonders when it comes to making multiple instances of WhatsApp. You can easily download it from the Google Play Store and you’ll be able to use it quickly without any problems.

The best part about AppCloner is that aside from being able to clone the apps, you’ll also be able to tweak how the icon looks! Essentially, you can customize the app the way you want it to look!

2Accounts: Multi-User Switch

2Accounts: Multi-User Switch combines customization and ease of use into one comprehensive app. If you’re seriously having some compatibility issues with the previously listed app here. Then 2Accounts might be the app for you. The app was made mainly for duplicating messenger apps so your Facebook Messenger will work, your WeChat and LINE apps will work, and most importantly, your WhatsApp will work without any problems here.

The only downside is that the app is not available for direct download in the Google Play store, you’ll need to download it from 3rd party sites. But there’s nothing for you to worry about with this app. It’s safe and you’ll have the peace of mind that all your app information is secure.

How does App Cloning work?

Cloning apps work by making a copy of the app in question. Once it has made a copy of the app, it allows it to run in parallel to the app. Meaning to say, if you’ve got one Facebook app and you clone it, then you will now have two copies of the Facebook app, each would be separate from one another. Another example is that you’ll be able to see two notifications for your two different apps.

The power behind app cloning is really big. If you want to use two profiles on your favorite app – let’s say one is for personal use and the other is for work use, then you can definitely do it. Additionally, if you fear for the privacy of your 2nd account, then you utilize a cloning app with a lock feature. If you clone an app, you wouldn’t need to log out and switch accounts which is very tedious. There are definitely a lot of needs that app cloning fills in. But the best part of the App Cloning feature is that you don’t need to have two phones!

Some time ago, you needed to have two phones to have 2 parallel instances of WhatsApp or the Facebook app. It was a nightmare to switch between accounts especially since you’ll need to retype passwords and such. But all of that is taken care of by App Cloning. Try it out if you’re struggling and see for yourself how powerful it is!

In Brief

To cut things short, there are many ways to start using multiple Whatsapp accounts on one phone. In fact, this feature was unheard of a few years ago. Everyone thought that you can only have one instance per phone. But it’s really nice how software has adjusted to the needs of the people and now you can easily do it. With nothing but good things and no downsides, cloning your apps is a really big win-win situation and you shouldn’t dismiss it! Whether you have an up to date phone or a dated one, there is surely a method that would work for you. Once you’ve found a method that works for you, have fun and enjoy cloning your apps!
